The team

The mission of our team is to define an effective path for business and IT transformation by translating our strategy into sustainable designs and technology decisions, which are built on shared standards. Doing so we contribute to maximise business value and keep the bank relevant today and ready for tomorrow. Within the CoE Architects you work together in a small team of enterprise architects, you work closely with the domain architects, and you maintain an overview of the required work. Besides you collaborate with business colleagues, architects, feature engineers, and IT managers to create and communicate the architecture results.

Roles and responsibilities

You will translate business vision into end-to-end services by creating, communicating and improving the key principles and models that describe the future state. And you will execute the global business & IT roadmap process, with centralised designs and (logical) global decompositions, analyse market- and IT-trends and, based on this information, contribute to the products we offer to our customers. So you will:

  • Collaborate in a small team of experienced architects setting architecture vision, principles and patterns based on the strategy resulting in effective business services.
  • Work together with a team of domain architects and maintain an overview of the work of the various domain architects.
  • Effectively coordinate the communication, participation and cooperation with the domain architects to deliver integrated business services.
  • Manage the complexity of providing a data and analytics platform to all tribes.
  • Keep a close relation with the different area leads, product owners and engineers, influencing the development priorities and direction.
  • Initiate and be involved in developments so the architecture team can proactively steer on ‘fit for purpose’.

  • To be succesfull on data and analytics, proven experience is needed on large scale data and analytics platforms on public cloud.
  • Working in a multinational company requires adaptability whereby appreciation for multiple viewpoints, customs and diversity is a must. Professional communications skills in English are required.
  • Working as enterprise architect requires both formal and informal global coordination and communication skills amongst large groups of stakeholders, maintain alignment with vendors/suppliers and the ability to present to C level management.
  • Working within the CoE Architects domain for the bank requires broad understanding and affinity with general IT solutions and a profound knowledge of banking services. Ability to understand the way of working of ING and support domain architects.
  • Working within the retail area requires a strong but respective mindset on change for guiding stakeholders to sustainable use of public cloud services. These services will be delivered within the guardrails of the architecture put in place by you. The guardrails make sure the services are used in a secure and financially controlled manner with the right non-functional characteristics.
  • Working in a regulated industry requires appreciation and tolerance for regulations. It is important to understand that regulations influence the architecture of our landscape.
  • Working as a professional requires besides the standard skills like teamwork, self-steering, administrative, negotiation, etc. also a high level of self-awareness of (solution) biases. Understanding our own biases and their limits are key to be successful in negotiating broadly supported solutions.
