$68,300 - $98,000

Multiple factors, including Individual experience, skills and abilities will determine where an employee is ultimately placed in the pay range. Position level may vary based on experience.

The Job You Will Perform:

The Data Engineer is an important member of the Remote Analytics Team – an integral part of the International Paper Global Manufacturing Technology group.  The Remote Analytics Team is a strategic, innovative, and cross-functional team that is focused on creating value for the company through the advanced analytics of manufacturing data. This position offers a flexible working arrangement provided that the home office is within a typical commuting distance to the A2C office.  Relocation of the successful candidate will be covered by International Paper if the candidate currently resides outside of the Atlanta Metro area.

 

The Data Engineer will be responsible for but not limited to the following: 

  • Lead the data acquisition efforts to support analytics project objectives using data sources across multiple source systems (SAP, Oracle, Azure ADX, Synpase, AVEVA PI, GE Plant Applications, etc)
  • Consult with Global Technology and Data & Analytics Hub personel to discuss analytic project objectives and related data requirements.
  • Query and validate data across multiple data sources with a strong focus on data integrity and security (SQL, KQL, etc…).
  • Test and validate analytic reporting against established metrics to ensure results are secure, consistent, reliable, and accurate.
  • Develop and maintain data source documentation, backup, and recovery procedures as needed.
  • Collaborate in the identification and creation of all appropriate use cases/process scenarios and their expected outcomes that will be used during the testing and validation during the delivery lifecycle.
  • Work with Data Custodians and Data Stewards to identify and remediate issues in source data.  
  • Support, assess, and validate the automated activities with a subject matter expert (SME) during any verification and user acceptance testing to confirm the automated solution fulfilled the requirements.
  • Document all the security accesses that would be required by the automated solution during the process, this includes the documentation of the specific system rights/roles required and the procedures to be follow to obtain those accesses.
  • Administer and monitor connections between tools like Power BI,  Azure, SQL, AVEVA PI, GE Plant Applications, and MS PowerApps.
  • Explore opportunities for creating APIs
  • Create templates for new data flows, including creating data pipelines within Azure Synpase or similar applications in Azure.
  • Optimize processes for data refreshes and cleaning of data
  • Research and analyze planned designs/provisions for end-user reports such as Technology SMEs, Mill Engineers, Mill Operations, and company leadership.
  • Collaborate with our end-users to identify evolving needs and requirements and support the sustain of manufacturing data analytics pipelines
  • Continual learning on the technical and organizational aspects of the role are expected.
  • Maintain safety awareness and comply with all safety policies, practices, and procedures to assure a safe working environment. Properly wear and care for applicable safety gear and equipment. Identify and communicate unsafe conditions to supervisor, coworkers, and the Safety functional area and correct or assist in resolving safety concerns and issues.

 

The Skills You Will Bring:

  • Bachelor’s degree and/or Master’s degree in statistics, information technology, management information systems or another field that uses quantitative analysis (mathematics, engineering), or equivalent practical experience 5+ years of experience with SAP/SuccessFactors
  • Combination of experience of 3-5 (or more) years in the below categories
    • Experience with statistics, visualization tools such as Tableau, PowerBI, R, or Python. 
    • Working knowledge of data engineering tools such as Alteryx, SQL Server, Azure Data Tools, Azure Analysis Services, Azure Synapse, Oracle, PowerPlatform, SAP Data Extraction, Theobald, PowerBI, Tableau).   Experience in data pipeling within Azure Synapse is preferred.
    • Working experience with operating (time-series) data platforms such as AVEVA PI is a plus.
  • Prior working experience within continuous manufacturing operations such as pulp & paper, power/utilities, chemicals, or refineries is preferred.
  • The candidate must demonstrate a passion for continual learning and acceptance of working within a highly innovative, less-structured, environment where self-directed research and prototyping may be required.
  • Must be able to work independently with little supervision, perform in a team environment, as well as effectively communicate with others.
  • Good written skills with the ability to produce clear and concise documentation.
  • Good communication skills with the ability to present technical details to a non-technical audience
  • An understanding of, and a willingness to adhere to, formal change control procedures and disciplines.
  • An aptitude for problem solving, with the ability to take a logical route to the source of an error.
  • Basic programming skills in languages such as VB.NET, C#.NET, Web Development, VBA, ETL, JavaScript, Java knowledge, Python, or R.
  • Experience with data mapping
  • Familiar with Agile Scrum / DevOps processes and tools.
  • Competencies include: action oriented, customer focus, interpersonal savvy, technical learning, organizational agility, problem solving, Learning on the Fly, Listening, Problem Solving, Dealing with Ambiguity and time management.
