Data Engineer

TEAMThe Business Analytics team is responsible for Woven by Toyota’s data-driven culture! The data and analytics delivered by the team acts as key inputs to help the company act on its mission to redefine mobility, and continue to improve the company's metabolic rate. In parallel to providing insights, the team maintains a modern data platform that not only modernises the developer experience but is looking at new ways users can ingest and consume data. With a strong commitment to automation, the team is always looking at optimising internal processes and delivering more value to our customers.
WHO ARE WE LOOKING FORAn engineer who is passionate about understanding the business, how it manifests in the data and working with analysts across the company to support decision making. You will want to know the details, have a high-level of ownership and build data pipelines and models with maintainability, scalability, security and quality in mind. We value creative and positive team members with a helpful attitude and a customer-centric working style. You will be reporting to Head of Business Analytics. You will be based in Nihonbashi and we support hybrid work.

RESPONSIBILITIES

• Translate requirements to data requirements, map out transformations/aggregations, and design dimensional models that align with business logic and reporting needs
• Build robust and efficient data pipelines (ELT) using SQL and Python to integrate raw data from diverse source systems into our platform
• Improve our data infrastructure that is built on a modern data stack (Fivetran, Airflow, dbt, Snowflake) to meet the highest standards for data quality, integrity, and security and privacy.
• Improve our data monitoring processes by performing data profiling to proactively identify issues, anomalies, and deviations from expected data patterns
• Collaborate with teams to facilitate the adoption of self-service analytics

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

• 3+ years of experience as a Data Engineer or BI Engineer
• Solid knowledge about dimensional modelling techniques and advanced SQL skills for transforming raw data into a star schema, ready for consumption 
• Experience building ELT/ETL pipelines using Python/Java/Scala and basic understanding of advanced loading strategies (e.g. incremental, backfilling, snapshotting)
• Experience with either Airflow or dbt and a modern cloud-based DWH (e.g. Snowflake, Redshift, BigQuery)
• Experience ensuring that code meets all functionality and acceptance criteria and has a proactive attitude to refining data engineering processes for scalable, long-term solutions
• Advanced-level English proficiency

NICE TO HAVES

• Knowledge of software engineering best practices across the development lifecycle
• Experience working with JSON data and handling authentication, pagination, and exceptions
• Experience with DevOps tools such as Terraform, Docker/Kubernetes or GitHub Actions
• Japanese language proficiency
