Job Description

The Total Fund Management Department
In Total Fund Management ("TFM"), we are building the capabilities to enable a consistent framework for the long-term management of the firm's investment strategy.  TFM consists of five groups: Exposure, Leverage, and Liquidity Management, Portfolio Design and Construction, Applied Research & Models (“ARM”), Trading and Business Management.

In partnership with a diverse team of professionals, the ARM group seeks to ensure TFM’s research capabilities in one centralized team produce focused and impactful research, develop robust and consistent tools, and operate as efficiently as possible.

We are currently recruiting an Analyst to join the Tactical Branch of the Quantitative Models team within the ARM group for a 12-month period beginning either May or Sept 2024. 

What you’ll do

  • Work in collaboration with researchers and portfolio managers to implement investment strategies, conduct statistical analysis, track portfolio metrics, and enhance existing models
  • Help organize the implementation of our platform and ensure the robustness of our infrastructure.
  • Be mentored by experienced team members who will aid you in tapping into your expertise and blending it with new skills learned on the job.
  • Have the opportunity to contribute to quantitative research topics including (but not limited to): portfolio construction, back testing, and signal research. 

Qualifications

Who We’re Looking For  

  • The ideal candidate is either i) enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate co-op program, ii) enrolled in a non-co-op program and pursuing a professional experience year (PEY), or iii) has graduated in August 2023 or later from an undergraduate or advanced degree program.
  • You are working towards a degree with a specialization in Software Engineering, Computer Science, Mathematics, Finance or related quantitative disciplines. CFA Level I is an asset.
  • The candidate must have strong programming and data modeling experience in Python. Proficiency in data manipulation using Python libraries such as Pandas and NumPy.
  • An interest in modern portfolio theory, investment, economics, or quantitative portfolio techniques.  
  • You would like to gain industry experience in financial markets, portfolio management, portfolio construction, and asset pricing.
  • You have strong analytical and problem-solving skills, attention to detail, intellectual curiosity, and the ability to learn new concepts.
  • You demonstrate strong interpersonal skills with solid verbal and written communication skills.
