We are seeking a mid-level researcher to enhance our data offering through the build out and analysis of financial models based out of Kolkota. You will need to have detailed knowledge of financial modelling and researching companies across the energy landscape. The successful candidate will be able to quickly take on an array of responsibilities and play a central role in the build out of our product offering across numerous service lines.
You will play an active role in the research and data department, with a strong focus on financial analysis, with a particular emphasis on data collation, cleansing and processing for companies across the traditional hydrocarbon spectrum (Upstream, downstream midstream) as well as emerging energy technologies such as wind, solar, biofuels, batteries. As a commodities research firm, your work and analysis on equities will be applied to commodity markets as we do not make buy-sell recommendations on individual equities.
This individual will be responsible for planning, building and successfully managing data sets to support our research team. The coverage will be global and will include analysis on, but not limited to, operational data, PnL, Cashflow and balance sheet analysis as well as share price monitoring. Your work will support and enhance our coverage of global energy commodity markets.
You will be expected to consistently produce work at a high standard, with the outputs sent out to our demanding client base. We pride ourselves on our product and are meticulous in maintaining a high standard of accuracy across our services.
Duties:
- Build financial models, analyse and interpret data reported by a wide range of public companies in the energy sector.
- You will be responsible for the end-to-end process of data management (e.g. writing ETL code), using the tools and approaches adopted by our team.
- Carry out commercial and economic evaluations for renewable (wind, solar, biofuels) and traditional fossil fuels assets against representative benchmarks.
- Identify relevant project updates, research themes and other qualitive information from earnings calls, investor presentations, etc.
- Contribute to and enrich existing research publications and datasets, which will involve engaging collaboratively with colleagues across our global research team.
- Continuously seeking to increase your market knowledge and widen your network of contacts.
Requirements:
- Extensive financial modelling skills and experience, particularly with analysing companies.
- Strong Excel skills, data analysis and coding skills using systems like Python and SQL
- Grasp of income statement, cashflow and balance sheet of companies.
- A quantitative degree in a subject such as economics, or engineering. CFA (or equivalent) would be useful.
- The ability to meet deadlines and work effectively with others, including colleagues in different time zones, to deliver timely analysis will be critical.
- Attention to detail is a prerequisite for this role in both handling data and written English.
- Experience with writing reports is an advantage but not essential.
Desirable skills:
- Exposure to statistical modelling techniques would be advantageous.
