The Data & Metrics team within the Financial Engineering mission builds data products and platforms that influence the future path of the Finance organization and Spotify as a company. You'll be working on a vast data ecosystem that drives Spotify’s revenue recognition from subscriptions and ads, forecasting algorithms and financial performance measurement and analysis. You will have a direct impact on the future of Spotify’s global business and product decisions!
We are looking for a Backend Engineer with data pipelines experience for our team! We are developing an internal system for uncovering patterns in the company metrics, as a part of the Financial Performance Management platform. Our mission is to lower the time between a new trend emerging in the metrics and the company being aware of the change.
You will join an experienced team that spans the full range of a distributed system: frontend and backend engineers, but also data engineers and scientists! Your role will be to develop the backend that exposes the results of detection to frontend clients, and as such we need you to be proficient in modern backend technologies, as well as understanding the specific needs of a system that interfaces towards data pipelines and statistical models.

What you’ll do

  • Develop backend services in Java that expose data both in relational and non-relational databases to a React frontend.
  • Design the interaction between the backend databases and the data pipelines that apply statistical models, answering questions like which type of store is better suited for which results, how to scale out to larger work loads, or how to update to schemas in the future
  • Continue the design of the API exposed to clients: extend for new metrics and insight types, accommodate breaking changes
  • Deploy and operate the backend services that you develop on Google’s GCP cloud.

Who you are

  • BS or MS in Computer Science or relevant work experience.
  • 2+ years developing backend services, using Spring Boot or similar frameworks. Having used Spotify’s own Apollo framework is a plus but is not required.
  • You have either worked directly with distributed processing frameworks such as Hadoop, Spark, Beam … or have worked on a backend system that interacted meaningfully with such a framework.
  • We expect a reasonable familiarity with current practices of software development: design via RFCs, testing and continuous integration, DevOps

Where you’ll be working

  • We have a distributed team that is near the CET timezone (Stockholm). Near means 1 hour more or one hour less than this timezone and you can choose from one of our EMEA locations.
  • If you prefer to work from an office, we can arrange a spot in one of our physical offices. There is usually one in every country where Spotify operates. Otherwise, you can choose to work from home or from a co-working space.
Spotify is an equal opportunity employer. You are welcome at Spotify for who you are, no matter where you come from, what you look like, or what’s playing in your headphones. Our platform is for everyone, and so is our workplace. The more voices we have represented and amplified in our business, the more we will all thrive, contribute, and be forward-thinking! So bring us your personal experience, your perspectives, and your background. It’s in our differences that we will find the power to keep revolutionizing the way the world listens.
Spotify transformed music listening forever when we launched in 2008. Our mission is to unlock the potential of human creativity by giving a million creative artists the opportunity to live off their art and billions of fans the chance to enjoy and be passionate about these creators. Everything we do is driven by our love for music and podcasting. Today, we are the world’s most popular audio streaming subscription service with a community of more than 381 million users.
