The role:
The Universal Tennis development team is looking for a senior data engineer to join our team to help scale and evolve our data platform. This role provides the opportunity to work with complex datasets and back-end systems supporting multiple different services and product lines. To excel in this role you should be willing and unafraid to dive into any challenge. This role will serve alongside a senior engineer and provide support to the data science and development teams as needed. If you value a culture of continuous improvement this role may be for you!
In this role you will:
- Help design and build data rich applications and features supporting our platform and customers
- Continue to scale, evolve, and support our tennis rating algorithm and pipeline
- Provide support to the data science team by building data pipelines, designing data warehouse schemas, and optimizing queries
- Facilitate data sharing with external partners by exposing well-documented web apis and data feeds
- Evolve the ingestion of external data into our system to support changes to incoming data formats
Requirements
- 3+ years of backend web development and/or data engineering
- Competency with C#, Java and/or Python desired
- Strong knowledge of relational databases and SQL
- Experience with cloud based application platforms (AWS, Azure)
- Experience with data scraping, cleaning, and building ETL or ELT pipelines
- Experience with some ETL tool such as SSIS, Azure Data Factory, or Apache Airflow
- Experience with data warehousing techniques and schema design (Azure Synapse a plus)
- Experience with data transformation frameworks such as LINQ, numpy, or pandas
- Experience with big data frameworks such as Databricks/Spark a plus
- Experience with Redis, cloud object storage (such as Azure Blob, AWS S3), serverless functions, and containers a plus
