About The Team

The Optimization Team is laser focused on wringing any and all inefficiencies out of our large scale production infrastructure.  This is a multidisciplinary team that spans from the mobile clients deployed around the world, to the cloud APIs that power near real time emergency services dispatch, to the large scale data analytics environment that guides our work.

About the Job

This role will provide technical expertise in optimizing data pipelines, ETL jobs, and associated infrastructure while also flexing into a wide variety of other areas of infrastructure and code as needed.

What You’ll Do

As part of the Optimization Team you will be continuously looking across the Life360 infrastructure and deployed systems for areas of inefficiency.  Some days those inefficiencies may be as simple as AWS resources that were abandoned, other days you’ll find yourself looking at multi-stage data pipelines crossing multiple teams and accounts.  In every case you will be at the forefront of Life360’s push to maintain operational excellence.

What We’re Looking For

• Bachelor's in Computer Science, Engineering, related field or equivalent practical experience
• Experience with distributed, columnar and/or analytic oriented databases or distributed data processing frameworks.
• Experience with streaming systems like Kafka, Kinesis, etc.
• Experience with asynchronous queue systems, NSQ, RabbitMQ
• Experience with Amazon Web Services: Redshift, S3, Glue, EMR, or Athena
• Experience with containerized applications on AWS
• Experience with Infrastructure as code tools: Terraform, CloudFormation; config management/provisioning tools: Ansible, Chef, etc.
• Excellent troubleshooting, attention to detail
