About the team
The Data Science & Engineering (DSE) team consists of data scientists and software engineers with diverse educational backgrounds such as math, operations research, economics, computer science, engineering and business. The team is responsible for enabling data-driven decision making and building data products at Wealthsimple. We achieve these goals by:
Building a high quality and scalable state-of-the-art data warehouse that powers all decision makingLeveraging machine learning and algorithms to help Wealthsimple build smarter financial productsUsing decision science to understand the cause and effect of our business decisions
About the roles
We are looking for a Senior Data Scientist who has strong foundations in data modelling, statistics and product analytics to work with the Product Platform team. As Wealthsimple continues to scale, our ability to enable customers to transfer assets seamlessly, understand financial data, and protect against fraud is critical. The platform organization is responsible for building the services that power all of the Wealthsimple products. These core services are shared across the platform with the goal of improving the speed at which we scale and launch new products and continue to improve our current offerings.
As a Senior Data Scientist working with the Product Platform team, some of your projects will include, but not limited to: modelling verification data, drive automation, and incorporate intelligence into existing manual bank and ID verification processes by employing OCR, and optimize the bank verification process by identifying smarter ways of routing bank linking volume between third party data services such as Flinks/Plaid.

Skills we are looking for:
Excellent Python & SQL skills.Strong understanding of statistics: both frequentist and Bayesian approachesExperience with applied statistics or experimentation (i.e. A/B testing) in an industry settingStrong understanding of fundamental machine-learning algorithms: regression and decision treesFirst hand experience working with popular Python libraries such as Pandas, scikt-learn, numpy and JupyterExcellent communicator who is able to present results and analysis to senior leadershipExperience in managing team members in a formal or informal capacityIt’s a bonus if you have hands-on experience with Apache Airflow, and a BI tool like Periscope, Mode Analytics or Tableau
