Help us make a big green dent in the universe. We're on a mission to drive the global renewable energy revolution, and we need loads more people to help us make our vision a reality.
About OctopusSince 2015, Octopus has been on a mission to bring affordable, green energy to the world. With the help of our in-house developed technology platform, Kraken, we’ve become the 4th largest energy supplier in the UK, opened retailers in 5 other countries, and licensed our software to retail giants including E.ON in the UK and Origin Energy in Australia. We’ve reinvented energy products with smart, data driven tariffs to balance customer demand with renewable generation - and we’re the biggest investor in renewable generation in the UK. Our partnership with Tokyo Gas is bringing the Octopus magic to Japan, and we’re looking for a data scientist to join our Tokyo team.
Data science and analytics has been at the heart of Octopus’ success, driving insight across all facets of the business. We drive understanding of the performance and optimisation of operations teams. Our deep knowledge of the industry and the market allows us to design innovative smart tariffs. We crunch billions of data points to train machine learning models to forecast each customer’s usage. We do it by hiring clever, curious, and self-driven people, enabling them with modern data tools and giving them lots of autonomy. Our data team consists of scientists and analysts in each of our retail businesses, and a global data engineering team to support them.
About the roleIn Japan, we’re at the start of our mission, so you’ll get to work with every team and across the whole data lifecycle. To begin with, your focus will be building out analytics: reports and dashboards (and the data pipelines that feed them) to understand operations, sales and marketing. We’re proud of our analytics platform, and it’s the first time we’re expanding it to a new country, so you’ll help to define best practices for internationalisation. You’ll become a domain expert, supporting management’s questions, and most importantly, making sure the right questions are being asked. As the business grows, you’ll need to forecast customer contact volumes and help the commercial team  design innovative tariffs. As a Japanese speaker, you will become the ambassador in Japan for Octopus’ global data culture.

  • Passionate about working in energy and contributing to the energy transition

What you'll love about us
