Machine Learning Engineering Manager - Freemium

The Freemium R&D team oversees the entire user journey on Spotify and ensures we engage with people in innovative ways, every step of the way. Our team grows Spotify’s audience by finding future listeners around the world and delivering the right value to them, at the right time. With research, product development, product design, engineering, and marketing all collaborating in one organization, we’re able to quickly create meaningful features and services for millions of people around the world, resulting in joyful, long-lasting relationships with Spotify.
We are a team in the Freemium mission working on optimizing the customer journey. We are responsible for the user experience across the Freemium lifecycle: from a user accessing Spotify for the very first time to becoming a long-term settled user on our free or paid tiers, and every variation within this journey. We have been working on optimizing this user journey both through heuristics and ML. As an Engineering Manager in our team, you will have the opportunity to have a significant impact on Spotify’s growth and will play a key role in our continued efforts to create highly personalized experiences to authenticate, activate and retain users across all tiers.

What you'll do

• Work closely with your product counterpart, actively contributing to shape and form the product strategy and taking accountability to deliver on the product strategy - realizing a high quality user experience.
• Use experimentation, data and insights to make the appropriate priorities and decisions.
• Participate in and challenge your team's systems architecture, making the appropriate trade-offs based on quality, scalability, performance and cost aligned with the team’s tech strategy.
• Grow the technical expertise of your team through technical leadership and advocating for sound software engineering practices such as continuous delivery.
• Lead a cross-functional team of various engineering fields. Grow a healthy, collaborative and productive engineering team in line with our values.
• Grow people and the team through hiring, coaching, mentoring, feedback, process and continuous improvement efforts.

Who you are

• Proven experience with applying agile software development practices to create high-performing teams.
• Passionate about creating a healthy culture for individual growth, have interests in inclusion and belonging efforts and have a high regard for championing positive mental health practices.
• You have a strong background in applied machine learning, theory, and practice.
• Hands-on experience implementing and maintaining high-scale, production ML systems in Python, Scala, or similar languages, is a plus.
