Director of Data Analytics

About the Analytics Team 

Varo’s Data Analytics team partners with stakeholders across the organization to guide decision-making with data. The team explores our rich datasets to identify key trends, propose experiments, and recommend business decisions based on a nuanced understanding of what the data are (and are not) saying. We hail from diverse quantitative backgrounds and are driven by a sense of ownership and the shared mission to translate rigor into impact. 
We’re seeking a senior leader – reporting to the Chief Data Officer – to drive our analytics efforts across all of Varo. You will be leading three pods – each with a manager and rapidly growing team of analysts – supporting Product, Marketing/Growth, and Finance, Fraud and Operations, and will own the end-to-end development and prioritization of the corresponding roadmaps. Achieving success will require drawing equally on your solid background in causal inference, statistics, and machine learning to derive meaningful insights, the ability to clearly link these insights to business outcomes, and ultimately influence partners from a range of backgrounds.

What you'll be doing

• Build and lead a high performing data analytics team supporting Varo’s Marketing/Growth, Product, Operations and Business domains
• Develop and execute against roadmaps of tactical and strategic initiatives aimed at optimizing Varo’s business outcomes using data (e.g. increasing customer acquisition, optimizing engagement, driving unit economics)
• Coordinate with and influence internal stakeholders (Product, Marketing/Growth, Engineering) and vendors to ensure our data infrastructure is supporting our business priorities.
• Ensure team members have clarity of purpose, the tools required to meet their responsibilities, and an environment conducive to diversity of thoughts, innovation, and personal/career growth. 
• Represent the Data Analytics team at the executive and Board level. 

You bring the following required skills and experiences

• 8+ years of experience in Analytics, Data Science or Software Engineering as an individual contributor, and 3+ years of experience managing a team of 5+ individual contributors. 
• PhD or Masters degree in highly quantitative discipline (computer science, economics, engineering, operations research, statistics, etc.)
• Ability to isolate and refine business questions in collaboration with cross-functional peers, break them down into tangible milestones, deliver statistically rigorous and compelling analyses, and influence cross-functional decision-making. 
• Experience applying a wide range of statistical techniques to large data sets, and understanding their real-world advantages/drawbacks. Experience with a broad range of causal inference techniques is strongly preferred.
• Expert command of SQL, scripting languages (Python or R preferred), and dashboarding tools (Tableau preferred).
• Excellent cross-functional communication skills
• Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment. Experience in fintech or other direct-to-consumer business with a high frequency of customer interaction is preferred.
• Demonstrated ability to attract top talent
