The Publishing Solutions team is looking for a Data Scientist to support our innovation strategies for Music Publishing. Your mission is to coalesce numerous big data sources, from listening behavior to music rights metadata to royalties, and empower senior leaders across accounting, licensing, R&D and legal to make decisions in a constantly evolving environment. In this role, you will be responsible for fulfilling complex requests end to end: from scope definition, to data analysis, to communicating resolution to partners. You will also be challenged to build reusable dashboards and operational tools to enable Publishing Solutions to scale its impact.

What you'll do

  • Perform analyses on large sets of data to extract actionable insights that will help drive senior leadership decisions relating to publishing licensing and operations strategy globally
  • Extract and leverage various data sources at Spotify to generate insights and tell stories about trends in the industry
  • Become a domain expert in Spotify Music Publishing operations, offering trusted guidance to partners teams on the global complexity of rights and royalties systems.
  • Build and maintain reusable queries and scripts for Publishing Solutions team members
  • Be part of a team of Program Managers and other Data Scientists/Analysts to resolve requests both independently and cross-functionally
  • Partner with engineers to craft important metrics for Spotify’s rights & royalty systems

Who you are

  • You have a degree in computer/data science, statistics, economics, mathematics, or similar quantitative field
  • You have worked in data analytics for at least 3 years with demonstrable experience in a business context
  • You are a communicative person who values building positive relationships with colleagues and partners
  • You are capable of taking on loosely defined problems and lead both technical and non-technical colleagues with limited guidance
  • Bonus: You have previous experience working with recording or publishing rights (Publisher/PRO/Collecting Society) and a passion for the music industry.
  • You have the technical competence to perform advanced analytics with large data sets with experience in Python, SQL and/or other analytic tools (e.g. Pandas, R, Bigquery) and visualization packages (e.g. Tableau, Google Data Studio, D3). Experience with Google Cloud Platform for data extraction / management is a plus.
