Position Overview

Daily Harvest is looking for a hands-on engineering manager to join our Data team. The Data team uses data to create better customer experiences, enable smarter business decisions, and drive innovations company-wide. You will lead and manage a high-performing team of machine learning engineers and data scientists that builds a core algorithmic capability for personalization that explores customer taste preferences, then uses them to recommend and rank our unique food collections and items in real-time.

In this role, you’ll work with a modern data stack including GCP / Bigquery, Fivetran, dbt, Airflow and Segment. You’ll identify opportunities for algorithms to add value and help plan, build, and release machine learning-driven products that enable a personalized, frictionless customer experience. You’ll be responsible for supporting the growth and development of individuals and building an amazing team. This is a highly visible role that has the opportunity to make a big impact on the business.

What you’ll do:

• experience, then deliver high-impact data products, machine learning models and analyses that bring our strategy to life
• Recruit, lead, develop and mentor a high-performing team of ML engineers and data scientists that personalizes customer experience, recommends and ranks our unique collections and items
• Dive deeply with members of your team to provide hands-on technical guidance along entire model life-cycle and direction in critical high-impact areas that ensures their success
• Work closely with our partners in engineering, product and marketing to turn business and product vision into actionable initiatives, prioritize efforts that will bring your team’s work to life, identify new and large opportunities, ship data products to production, and scale experiments
• Structure project work plans, roadmaps and communication cycles for your team
• Effectively communicate your team’s work with both technical and non-technical partners
• Help shape and support our rapidly evolving ML and personalization strategies
• Align your team to company objectives and key results and define ways to measure impact

Who you are:

• Experience leading teams both technically and in a formal management capacity
• Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent practical experience) in Computer Science, Engineering, Statistics, Mathematics, or related quantitative discipline - Master’s or PhD preferred
• Strong Python and SQL background
• Expertise in building, deploying, testing and maintaining scalable machine learning systems in a production setting
• Deep knowledge of and experience with a range of machine learning algorithms and techniques especially for recommendations
• Well-versed in customer data platforms and experimentation platforms that support bandits
• Firm grasp of software engineering fundamentals and ability to write production code as needed
• Experience with microservice based architecture, preferably with GCP tooling (GKE, Kubeflow, Cloud Build, Memorystore, BigTable, etc.)
• Excellent communication skills, experience communicating with and explaining technical concepts to non-technical partners
• Ability to thrive in a fast-moving and constantly evolving high-growth environment
