Data Engineer (Foursquare Labs, Inc., Seattle, WA)

Deliver new data product offerings by designing data schemas, planning service-level agreements, and overseeing communication between engineering teams. Recommend improvements to data processes by researching big data tool sets, evaluating data methodologies, and independently verifying the quality of externally sourced data sets. Perform mathematical and quantitative analysis on probabilistic data sets through quantitative and analytical skills. Use strong communication skills (written and verbal) to execute complex project management by providing accurate time and effort estimates and creating detailed project plans and specifications for data pipelines. Write action- oriented analyses with clear summaries and next steps, both theory and practice of multiple data science disciplines including statistics, probability, and machine learning. Build Hadoop MapReduce and Spark processing pipelines. Focus on performance, throughput, and latency, and drive these throughout company architecture.

Minimum Requirements: Bachelor’s degree or U.S. equivalent in Computer Science, Engineering, Computer Engineering, Information Technology, Electrical Engineering, or related field, plus 1 year of professional experience working on all phases of the data product development lifecycle (including requirement gathering and analysis, planning, design, development, implementation, testing, deployment, and maintenance). Must also have the following: 1 year of professional experience analyzing structured and unstructured data sets; 1 year of professional experience in using code repositories, version control systems, and task tracking systems in software development; 1 year of professional experience manipulating, processing and extracting value from large disconnected data sets; 1 year of experience supporting and working with cross-functional teams in an agile environment; 1 year of professional experience in applying computer science fundamentals in developing software (including data structures, algorithms, and system design); 1 year of professional experience in data pipeline design, understanding requirements and building consensus around business logic.
