Senior Data Engineer at Checkout.com:
Checkout.com is looking for an ambitious Senior Data Engineer to join our Data Platform Team. Our team’s mission is to ultimately provide all the tools/platforms which will ensure data is can be easily demonstrated to the benefit of our products, merchants and internal collaborators/teams.
Our focus should be on maximising the amount of time other teams spend on solving business problems/innovating their products and minimising time spent on technical details around implementation, deployment and monitoring of their data solutions.
We're building for scale. As such, much of what we design and implement today will be the technology/infrastructure which will serve hundreds of teams and petabyte-level volumes of data.

About you:

  • Strong engineering background with an interest in data.
  • Creative problem solver with good attention to detail.
  • Solid experience working with cloud data warehouses, preferably Snowflake.
  • Experience working with workflow management solutions, preferably Airflow.
  • Experience working with dbt (or similar SQL pipeline solution like dataform).
  • Experience working with SQL and Python.
  • Comfortable with the Unix shell and shell scripting.
  • Experience describing infrastructure as code using Terraform or similar.
  • Experience using, crafting, and implementing CI/CD pipelines.

The topics / technologies below would be a nice to have:

  • Familiarity with Looker
  • Familiarity with Stream Processing (Kafka or Kinesis)
  • Familiarity working with Docker and container deployment
  • Familiarity with Java/Scala/C#

Key Responsibilities:

  • Increase monitoring/observability of our Data Warehouse (Snowflake) and downstream systems/applications: availability, security, data latency, data quality, query performance, costs, auditing, etc
  • Guarantee we're GDPR/PCI compliant
  • Allow other teams to quickly create, deploy and monitor Data Warehouse modelling pipelines
  • Reduce latency of data ingested/available in Snowflake
  • Increase governance of our datasets (data cataloguing, information discovery, etc)
  • Facilitate the management of our Snowflake RBAC framework and integration of our RBAC
  • Framework with our governance strategy (schema registry, data cataloguing, etc)
  • Actively address any technical/documentation/monitoring debt
