We’re looking for an engineer to extend our Big data platform. Our Big Data platform processes massive data sets to develop business intelligence and analytics that are critical for the efficiency and profitability of our advertising business. You will be a self-starter with strong design and coding skills who loves shipping great product. You will thrive on implementing creative approaches and dealing with the intricate complexity of petabyte scale advertising (over 10B new events per day), our rich retail data, and the needs of our diverse advertiser base. You will challenge yourself and others to constantly come up with better solutions that disrupt the direction of the entire industry.

In this role you will:



· Build, scale and maintain data pipelines processing tens of billions log entries daily.
· Design, develop, implement, test, document & operate large-scale, high-volume, high-performance data structures.
· Design custom solutions to improve our data quality, workflow, job manageability and scalability; leverage cutting-edge tools and technology to continuously improve our data analytics infrastructure and reporting capability.
· Gather business and functional requirements and translate these requirements into robust, scalable, operable solutions that work well within the overall data architecture.
· Participate in the full development life cycle, end-to-end, from design, implementation & testing, to documentation, delivery, support & maintenance
· Explore improvements to reduce timeliness/latency, improve data consistent and completeness.
· Troubleshoot data platform and data issues and empower analysts to build customized reports in a self-serve fashion to investigate key business questions
· Participate in the full development life cycle, end-to-end, from design, implementation & testing, to documentation, delivery, support & maintenance.
· Work closely with Amazon Display Advertising teams world-wide
· Influence architecture and actively mentor other developers in the team.
· Lead projects to improve engineering and operational excellence best practices on team
· Evaluate and make decisions around data implementations designed & proposed by peers.


· Evaluate & make decisions around the use of new or existing software products & tools.

This position prefers that the candidate selected be a U.S. citizen and be willing to maintain a TS security clearance

This position requires up to 10% travel.

Basic Qualifications


· Bachelor's degree in computer science, computer engineering or related technical discipline
· 2+ years of non-internship professional software development experience
· Programming experience with at least one modern language such as Java, C++, or C# including object-oriented design
· 1+ years of experience contributing to the architecture and design (architecture, design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and current systems.

Preferred Qualifications

· 4+ years of industry experience as a Data Engineer or related specialty (e.g., Software Engineer, Business Intelligence Engineer, Data Scientist) with a track record of manipulating, processing, and extracting value from large datasets · Experience building/operating highly available, distributed systems of data extraction, ingestion, and processing of large data sets
· Experience leading medium to large-scale data warehousing and analytics projects, including using AWS technologies – Redshift, S3, EC2, EMR, Spark, Hadoop and other big data technologies
· Excellent communication skills and able to work with business owners to develop and define key business questions and to build data sets that answer those questions
· Experience providing technical leadership and mentorship of engineers and scientists on best practices in the data engineering space
· Be self-driven and show ability to deliver on ambiguous situations and projects
· Strong, object-oriented design and coding skills (C/C++ and/or Java preferably on a UNIX or Linux platform)
· Experience in machine learning and optimization mathematics (linear programming, nonlinear optimization)
· Knowledge of Python, Scala, or other scripting languages a plus
· Experience with distributed (multi-tiered) systems, algorithms, and relational databases
· Ability to effectively articulate technical challenges and solutions
· Deal well with ambiguous/undefined problems; ability to think abstractly
· Previous technical internship(s) preferred
· Graduate degree a plus

For employees based in Colorado, this position starts at $125,000 per year. A sign-on bonus and restricted stock units may be provided as part of the compensation package, in addition to a range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits, dependent on the position offered
