Do you love books? Interested in creating a great customer experience for Amazon Japan's Books business?

As a Data Engineer on the JP Books BI Team you will have an opportunity to collaborate with Business Intelligence Engineers, Data Scientists and Software Development Engineers in answering these questions. This team will be a key player in helping define the org's strategic direction. You will work with a wide range of data technologies (e.g. Kinesis, Spark, Redshift, EMR, Hive, and Tableau) and stay abreast of emerging technologies, investigating and implementing where appropriate. As a Data Engineer in this team, you will be responsible for developing the data architecture components that scales for the JP Books org. You will apply cloud-based AWS services to solve challenging problems around: big data processing, data warehouse design, and enabling self-service.

Key job responsibilities
· Work closely with Software Development team to design, implement and support an analytical data infrastructure
· Managing AWS resources including EC2, EMR, S3, Glue, Redshift, etc.
· Interface with other technology teams to extract, transform, and load data from a wide variety of data sources using SQL and AWS big data technologies
· Explore and learn the latest AWS technologies to provide new capabilities and increase efficiency around data processing and extraction
· Collaborate with Data Scientists and Business Intelligence Engineers (BIEs) to recognize and help adopt best practices in reporting and analysis: data integrity, test design, analysis, validation, and documentation

Basic Qualifications


· Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or a related field or 4+ years industry experience
· 3+ years of industry experience in software development, data engineering, business intelligence, data science, or related field
· Experience with data modeling, data warehousing, and building ETL pipelines
· Deep knowledge of advanced SQL and scripting for automation
· Experience using big data technologies such as Spark, Hive, Redshift, or S3.
· Coding proficiency in at least one modern programming language (Python, Java, etc.)

Preferred Qualifications

· Masters in computer science, mathematics, statistics, economics, or other quantitative fields.
· Experience with AWS technologies like Redshift, S3, AWS Glue, EMR, Kinesis, Firehose, Lambda, and IAM roles and permissions
· Knowledge of software engineering best practices across the development lifecycle, including agile methodologies, coding standards, code reviews, source management, build processes, testing, and operations
· Experience providing technical leadership and mentoring other engineers for best practices on data engineering
