Engineering Manager - Data Engineering

At Gojek, engineering is central to everything we do: bringing our ideas to life and into the lives of our users. As our Engineering Manager for the Data Engineering team, you’ll take the wheel in overseeing Back-end Engineering at Gojek - designing and developing highly scalable, reliable, maintainable and fault tolerant systems for our Data Engineering team. Along with owning the entire life cycle of these projects, you will establish and evangelize the best engineering practices for your team to follow. Working closely with the data catalog team, data engineers and data scientists, you will get to contribute to the system that runs meaningful experiments for GoJEK. The cherry on top: you’ll get to be a part of a team that works to provide APIs for GoJEK’s millions of users and driver partners to use.

What You Will Do

• Translate business requirements into scalable technical solutions
• Own the overall delivery and the solution architecture of the feature your team will be working on
• Write readable, concise, reusable, extensible code 
• Perform code reviews, tests, deploy & diagnose production issues
• Design and implement scalable, reliable, secure and fault tolerant backend systems
• Pair with team members on functional and non-functional requirements, and spread design philosophy, goals, and improve the code quality across the team
• Mentor the team, recognize their strengths, and encourage them to take ownership of their deliverables
• Take responsibility for multiple services maintained by the team
• Research new tools, learn and experiment with new languages and technologies

What You Will Need

• 8+ years of hands-on experience in software development - designing, developing, testing and deploying large scale applications in any language or stack
• Good understanding of at least one of the following programming languages: Golang, Java, Clojure, Ruby
• Strong understanding in either of HTTP or gRPC protocol and serialization formats like protobuf
• Experience in working with relational databases (like postgres)
• Experience in containerization technologies like docker, kubernetes
• Experience working in  any cloud platforms (AWS, Azure etc.,) preferably GCP
• Data modelling experience in either Relational or NoSQL databases
• Ability to design and implement low latency GRPC/RESTful services
• Proficiency in OOP, SQL, Design Patterns; experience with functional programming is a plus
• Well-versed with Agile methodologies, as well as writing unit tests and maintaining good coverage (knowledge of TDD is a plus)
