Valon’s mission is to champion homeowners on their financial journey as the partner they can trust with their home and future. We bring simplicity, dependability, and humanity to homeownership. We are a growing team of engineers, operators, product enthusiasts, and experienced mortgage professionals who are leveraging technology to fundamentally improve the homeownership experience. Through mortgage servicing—the process of paying off one’s mortgage—and lending, Valon is taking the first step in transforming the industry one homeowner, and lender, at a time.
Valon is currently scaling up its mortgage lending business, which aims to provide Valon borrowers the ability to access low cost and streamlined mortgage loans and Valon partners tools to retain customers. As a member of the Lending team, you will be directly involved in making it faster, easier, and cheaper for borrowers to get loans by reinventing the borrower journey. We are looking for experienced and innovative individuals who are eager to transform the mortgage industry for the better to help build our team and business.
We are hiring our first data scientist on the Lending team. Data is a cornerstone of our lending business, and this is an opportunity to shape our data vision and infrastructure from the ground up as well as our overall business strategy. You will be a “full-stack” data science generalist, working across modeling of borrower behavior (including refinance and purchase likelihood), data engineering and ETL, and customer experience testing. The right candidate is analytical, works well under changing circumstances, and has a good mix of technical skills and business intuition.

  • Build statistical and machine learning models of borrower behavior to Valon to ensure we are contacting borrowers before they look elsewhere for a mortgage

  • Wrangle both internal and external data sources across a variety of paradigms (macro data, loan level data, user web behavior, public records, credit reports, alternative metrics, etc)
  • Model and analyze user data on our platform, including data extraction and A/B testing
  • Think of and develop novel data sources that can improve our model accuracy and practical utility
  • Help establish and influence data process, tools, and infrastructure that will allow us to make better decisions in a scalable way
  • Dive deep to understand the inner workings of a highly complex industry
  • Drive insights that inform business unit strategy

  • Familiarity with data orchestration tools and cloud database and computing infrastructure
  • Bachelor's degree or advanced degree in a quantitative or data driven field (statistics, computer science, economics, hard sciences, etc)
