What will you do?We are looking for a Lead Data Modeler with a deep understanding of human-centered design principles to create and maintain conceptual, logical, and physical data models for storing and easy distribution of data. You will enable engineering teams with the integration, modeling, and distribution of internal and external datasets that support business users. You will be also responsible for guiding other data modeler/s in the team, be the main point of contact for stakeholder interaction for data modeling in Snowflake and Databricks environment on Azure Cloud, as well as view enablement for data consumption in the Snowflake environment. The right Lead Data Modeler will be able to communicate with technical and non-technical audiences alike. You will work cross-functionally to develop analyses and visualizations to ensure client requirements are exceeded.
Location:This role can be remote. You must be legally eligible to work in the United States. Bixal does not provide visa sponsorship. You must be able to pass and maintain a Public Trust clearance. 

Responsibilities:

  • Work with the business and Engineering team, comprising of Data Engineers, Data Scientists, Data Architects, Data Analysts, and information technologists to understand data requirements and design for Use Case and User Story enablement. 
  • Perform data profiling/analysis activities that helps to establish, modify, and maintain data model. 
  • Create conceptual data models to identify key business entities and visualize their relationships. 
  • Create detailed logical models identifying all the entities, attributes, and their relationships along with the characteristics associated with each of those. 
  • Create guidelines on data model lifecycle and various standards, including naming standards relating to governed data. 
  • Create and deploy various types of complex views on top of physical data stores to drive data consumption and data analytics adoption by multiple business user groups. 
  • Articulate data modeling principles to other data modelers and business users. 
  • Facilitate resolution of model conflicts created by competing business requirements. 
  • Create a taxonomy/data dictionary to communicate data requirements that are important to business stakeholders 
  • Lead and participate in design workshops to facilitate an understanding of business data needs and how they are mapped to the data model. 
  • Work with Agile Pods, Business and System Analytics Stakeholders to guide and support data modeling efforts and standards. 
  • Bring a combination of curiosity, collaboration, and creativity to your work   
  • Other duties as assigned.   

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in a comparable field required. 
  • 8 years of experience leveraging data modeling tools, such as Erwin Data Modeler, Draw.io, or others. 
  • 8 years of experience building complex Data Models (Entity Relationship Diagrams, Logical Models, Physical Models) for Data Science, Data Analytics and Reporting enablement. 
  • 8 years of experience writing high performing SQL, and complex queries 
  • Experience with reverse engineering models from existing database 
  • Experience with Data architecture concepts (data management, metadata management). 
  • Experience with data services on cloud platforms such as AWS, Microsoft Azure, or Google Cloud. 
  • Experience working in cross-functional teams 
  • Experience with Agile development methodology and concepts. 
  • Acute attention to detail 
  • An innate ability to communicate well verbally and in writing; you should be able to adjust “languages” to fit technical and non-technical audiences alikeUnderstanding of information systems and data life-cycle management best practices and methodologies and systems development life cycle (SDLC) 
  • Must be legally eligible to work in the US; Bixal does not provide visa sponsorship at this time. 
  • Ability to undergo and pass a Public Trust security clearance. 

Nice to Haves:

  • Experience with Snowflake and Databricks is preferred. 
  • Experience with Erwin Data Modeler.
