About the roleYou’ll contribute to Varo’s AI/ML platform which includes infrastructure for feature engineering (batch and streaming) and building and deploying production ML models (model training, batch and real time inference) as well as model monitoring and alerting. A lot of our services are implemented in Python and Java/Kotlin. Your work will accelerate ML development as the team scales up alongside Varo’s explosive member growth.

As a Staff Software Engineer, Machine Learning you’ll...

• Build feature pipelines/embeddings for batch and real-time data, collaborating with data engineering & data science stakeholders.
• Contribute to our ML pipeline infrastructure for model training, evaluation, and batch inference at scale.
• Design, implement, own APIs and integrations between our ML model inference services and the company’s broader engineering systems.
• Design, develop, and advocate for ML platform observability, scalability, security, and performance.
• Work in a cross-functional capacity with the risk & fraud, data science, product and business stakeholders.

You have the following required experience...

• Bachelor's degree (or foreign equivalent) in Computer Science, Engineering, Computer Information Systems, Mathematics, Physics, or a related field & 5 years of experience involving: application of cloud technologies, infrastructure, and application of distributed systems.
• Building and operating machine learning platform.
• Demonstrated experience leading projects end-to-end while collaborating with cross-functional teams.
• Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Computer Information Systems, Mathematics, Physics, or a related field is preferred.
• Modern data technologies such as in-memory, distributed and serverless processing (e.g. spark/cloud-functions), key/value vs. document vs. column oriented datastores (e.g. athena, DynamoDB), message queues (kafka/pub-sub), elastic scaling (kubernetes, instance-groups), etc is a plus.
• Experience using and supporting machine & deep learning tools and frameworks (Keras, Tensorflow, SparkML, pandas, scikit-learn, etc) is a plus.

• Technologies for production serving include Java/Kotlin, AWS Sagemaker, Kubernetes/Kubeflow, DynamoDB, GRPC, Terraform, Grafana and many others
