Job Title: Data ArchitectLocation: Portland, Oregon (Remote)Duration: 6 months plus
The Data Strategy & Management (DSM) bears critical responsibility on behalf of clients to create value for customers, regulators, and business operations through the collection, organization, and interpretation of data from PGE’s expansive data portfolio. The mission of our team is to enable data driven decisions across the company and external stakeholders by ensuring secure, reliable and cataloged data access from our data lake and delivering insights utilizing advanced AI/ML approaches to support achieving PGE’s goal to provide energy that is safe, clean, reliable, affordable and secure.
We are looking for a Data Architect to join our team and drive our mission together who can use expert specialist skills and knowledge to define and deliver data solutions and to contribute to the development and implementation of IT plans in line with the overall strategy of IT and the business; to act as Lead Architect on major data programs.
Skillsets and experience● Experience with distributed management and analytics in cloud (preferred AWS) and hybrid environments. Also an understanding of a variety of data access and analytics approaches (for example, microservices and event-based architectures).● Entity Relationship modeling, metadata systems, data quality tools and techniques● Experience with database technologies (e.g., SQL, NoSQL, Oracle, Hadoop, Teradata, Snowflake, Redshift)● Experience developing reference architecture, principles and standards● Strong analytical and problem-solving skills● Ability to communicate across all levels of the organization and work with diverse project teams● Experience with ETL and other business intelligence tools● Ability to regularly learn and adopt new technology● Experience in data warehousing, data modeling and/or data analysis● Good knowledge of data management, data integration and database development techniques
Key Responsibilities
● Lead the data design of solutions for large projects and programs; through expert knowledge translate high-level business requirements into data models and appropriate metadata, test data, and data quality standards● Direct and control large specialist teams to undertake the delivery of a comprehensive data-centric project● Manage senior business stakeholders to secure strong engagement for the solution and ensure that the delivery of the project aligns to longer-term strategic roadmaps● Work as part of the program management team on large program, governing and shaping the delivery of projects.● Simplify the existing data architecture, delivering reusable services and cost saving opportunities in line with the policies and standards of the group● Lead collaborative team working with other areas to ensure that all solutions are complete, operable, conform to business processes, and meet the business needs with the agreed quality of service● Responsible throughout the entire project lifecycle for the end-to-end solution of the project and compliance with enterprise data model and logical data groups● Provide clear, continuous, and consistent data architecture leadership at a detailed level within the project● Ensure the end-to-end solution is fit for purpose, meet the needs of business, the agreed requirements, and are both pragmatic and supportive of the strategic architecture direction● Lead and participate in the peer review and quality assurance of project architectural artifacts. Report key architecture decisions and implications to the architectural governance forums● Identify and communicate appropriate resource requirements and work breakdown structure based on skills profile and best fit to complete the end-to-end solution design, and work with the project manager to ensure that project plans and finances align with the design● Expected to carry out core accountabilities with minimal level of supervision for complex tasks and no supervision for more routine matters● Drive project knowledge back to the enterprise data model and ensure that it evolves correctly● Lead the design, development, implementation and maintenance of complex data systems and solutions● Develop conceptual, logical and physical data models to support data analysis and business intelligence● Create and maintain current- and target-state data architectures● Define and manage standards, guidelines and processes to ensure data quality● Ensure technology solutions are in alignment with data architecture principles and target state● Oversee end-to-end data life cycle management activities● Work with IT teams, business analysts and data analytics teams to understand data consumers’ needs and develop solutions● Evaluate and recommend emerging technologies for data management, storage and analytics
Education / Experience / Certifications• Requires a bachelor’s degree in business, computer science, engineering, management or other related field or equivalent experience.• Typically 10 or more years in related field.• Preferred experience in or knowledge of utilities business domains is a plus
