About the Role
Hipcamp is looking for a founding Data Scientist to build out our data science practice and drive matchmaking via marketplace initiatives. In this role you will be able to set the course for the future of data science at Hipcamp. This is a perfect role for someone with experience that wants to take the lead and shape the vision for how Hipcamp uses data science.
What we're looking for
Machine LearningYou will have the opportunity to fundamentally shape our use of machine learning.  Building both machine learning models embedded directly in our product and in models used to optimize our business.  The range of possible algorithms is broad therefore it is important that you understand when it is appropriate to use a given technique and understand the statistical methods used to assess your results. You will have experience and strong opinions about how to build an ML practice and you will be supported by our staff, product, and engineering team. You will build and hire a team to build the data science platform that runs Hipcamp. You will drive transformative business outcomes.
LeadershipYou lead others and have strong opinions about how data science can impact our business. You will work closely with staff, product and engineering teams to define the strategic roadmap. You will build a team to execute on that vision guided by hard results. You'll iterate efficiently and by doing so your work will have long lasting impacts on the business. You will build trust and influence throughout the company and be a champion for objectivity. You will reveal patterns and build systems that lever up all of our efforts.
ExperienceIdeally you have experience applying data science broadly to business challenges and have delivered impact. E-commerce or two-sided marketplace experience not required but preferred. Experience with designing and deploying online models at scale ideal. Experience designing recommendation systems and personalized product experience from scratch.  Experience working with stakeholders and influencing strategy required.

About our Work Environment
Compensation will be a mix of salary and stock options. We are a 100% remote company post Covid-19.
