The Senior Engineering Director, Data Platform & AI Machine Learning is a new role at Everbridge and will be responsible for driving the architecture and engineering that enables for enterprise-wide Data and AI platform to drive business value and customer success. Reporting to the SVP Engineering, you will lead the efforts to build our integrated data platform for Everbridge CEM to deliver regulatory-grade analysis, better train our algorithms and models, and identify unique insights by enabling data fusion across disparate data sets.
This is an exciting role for an entrepreneurial engineering leader who is looking to build the next generation data platform for critical event data. In this role, you’ll see a direct link between your work, company growth, and user satisfaction. The ideal candidate will have strong data infrastructure and data architecture skills as well as experience in areas such as operating system telemetry, building ML platforms, stitching Customer 360 data across all channels of customer interactions at the lowest level of grain into a data model/product that will support all lines of business.
You will be responsible for setting strategy and execution across areas spanning the entire enterprise. You will be responsible for building scalable pipelines for ingesting and normalizing critical event data. The development of a scalable platform that allows for data scientists to easily discover, access, and transform data and build ML models in a way that is shareable, traceable, and reproducible in collaboration with Infrastructure Engineering and Data Science.

What you'll do:

  • Create the vision for our next-generation data platform in alignment to business objectives, including the data foundation and analytics to accelerate building and improving cross platform components and define and execute on a plan to achieve that vision
  • Be the Engineering leader responsible for executing on our product roadmap using agile practices
  • Deliver a high scale and high reliability data platform
  • Develop and operationalize enterprise-wide data policies, standards and procedures
  • Manage, lead and motivate cross-functional, interdisciplinary teams to achieve strategic and tactical business outcomes
  • Drive data security program to ensure Everbridge uses best in class security protection techniques in compliance with required legal and regulatory policy
  • Improve product quality through world class engineering practices
  • Partner closely with the senior/executive leadership to optimize delivery of data insights, and realization of greater business value
  • Empower other product and business teams to grow their analytics capabilities as their needs expand, supported by a centralized data expertise and a flexible data platform
  • Keep pace with the changing business environment, technology and data innovation in order to optimize data value and mitigate risks
  • Promote and oversee strategic relationships with external entities including vendors and partners
  • Hire, motivate, and organize a team of Data Engineers, ML Engineers, Data Scientists, Data Analysts to build the data platform that ingest, normalize, join, and analyze all types of data in a scalable way to solve Everbridge core business needs
  • Define platform KPI, set and continuously raise the bar for data and data engineering quality
  • Drive the design, building, and launching of new data models and data pipelines in production
  • Partner with Product Management to collect requirements from stakeholders and transform them into actionable parts of data strategy and roadmaps
  • Build a capable team with strong leadership through effective headcount planning, hiring, on-boarding, retention, and continuous improvement

What you'll bring:

  • 10+ years of experience in data systems, data engineering, data governance, and data pipelining
  • 5+ years of management experience managing a team of 10 or more
  • Experience building a data platform from the ground up
  • Experience taming messy data
  • Designed, developed, launched, and maintained a company-wide data lake and data warehouse supporting diverse types of data and data science workflows
  • Measurable experience with modern data technologies/stack such as AWS, Spark, Airflow, Kubeflow, Redshift, Snowflake, Databricks, Docker, BigQuery, Python, Git, etc
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate with and influence business and technical teams
  • Experience implementing data and AI solutions in a ‘product leadership’ technology environment
  • Strong customer focus (internal and external), understanding of customer centricity and design thinking to drive solutioning
  • Experience with highly sensitive consumer data and maintaining its security as a top priority; understanding big data and technology at scale
  • Experience in driving cross-functional alignment and influencing without authority
  • History of building and transforming engineering teams that innovate rapidly, deliver results, and ready the business for next levels of scale
  • Entrepreneurial spirit with a bias for action and desire to build in rapidly changing environments
  • Expertise in big data architecture and capable of unpackaging complex distributed systems
  • Demonstrated organizational and analytical skills with hypothesis-driven problem solving and turning data into actionable insights
  • Excellent communication skills with demonstrated experience navigating a large organization and generating buy-in for plans
  • Must be a strong leader, with the ability to influence throughout the organization, across all divisions and effectively communicate a business vision, key objectives, data needs and personal contributions
  • Experience with high-growth environments at scale
  • B.S. in Computer Science or a similar technical field, or equivalent experience
