Data Engineer at nate:
Data is the foundation of nate, but we’re not going to sell it. In fact, one of our pillars is user data privacy. Instead, we want to use it to understand our users and ensure they have the most seamless shopping experience possible, including automating everything humans shouldn’t be doing.
As the first Data Engineer at nate, you will partner with Business Intelligence, Data Science, and Engineering to provide a single source of truth about our users, including everything purchased, saved, or shared on the app and a complex web of payment processing. You will be the leading expert on how to optimize and scale our data stack.

What you will be doing:

  • Develope a unified data structure for analytics and data science, including unified user data schemas and tables that provide a complete view of the business across our social & payments products
  • Identify data needs for business and product teams, understand their specific requirements for metrics and analysis, and build efficient and scalable data pipelines
  • Implement internal process improvements: automating manual processes, optimizing data delivery, re-designing infrastructure for greater scalability, etc
  • Drive the collection of new data and the refinement of existing data sources, develop relationships with production engineering teams to manage our data structures as nate evolves
  • Build the infrastructure required for optimal extraction, transformation, and loading of data from a wide variety of data sources using SQL and big data technologies
  • Data privacy for our users is imperative to our mission: keep our data secure across national boundaries through multiple data centers and AWS regions

About you:

  • Experience in a Data Engineering or other Data role, with a focus on building data pipelines or conducting data intensive analysis
  • Experience with big data tools such as Hadoop, Spark and Kafka
  • Experience with relational SQL and NoSQL databases, including Postgres and MongoDB
  • Experience with stream-processing systemsPrior experience with writing and debugging scalable data pipelines
  • An inquisitive nature in diving into data inconsistencies to pinpoint issues
  • The ability to communicate cross-functionally, derive requirements and architect shared datasets
