Research Engineer for Network and Services

Within this framework, we are looking for an agile and highly-motivated “Research Engineer for Network and Services” to join a team of future shapers.

Responsibilities

The candidate will join a research team and work on innovative collaborative research projects in the area of network and telecommunication technologies along the beyond 5G and 6G roadmap. As a research engineer, the candidate will work on a small group, while being versatile and independent, will tackle interesting research problems, will gain expertise in modern and emerging technologies and will interact with other research teams across Europe. The candidate’s responsibilities will include:

• Evaluation and application of scientific techniques for addressing research challenges
• Architectural design and technical specifications of software solutions
• Collaboration with multi-disciplinary research groups in the context of collaborative research and innovation projects
• Experimentation with new technologies and implementation of prototypes
• Leading or contributing to technical reports
• Delivering technical presentations and demos

Requirements

• M.Sc. degree in Computer Science, Informatics, or Telecommunications
• Solid foundations in the Internet ecosystem, computer networks and telecommunications (with emphasis on L3 and above)
• Familiarity with Network Function Virtualization (NFV), Cloud Computing and 5G Network Slicing
• Excellent object-oriented design skills and programming experience in Java, Python, or C/C++
• Experience with web service frameworks and rapid prototyping (e.g., Spring Boot, Flask, FastAPI)
• Experience with Cloud-Native technologies (e.g. Docker, Kubernetes, Helm, Openstack, Juju) and Microservices Architectures
• Experience with Unix\Linux systems
• Excellent use of English language
• Fulfilled military obligations, for male applicants
• EU citizenship

Nice to Have

• Ph.D. degree in Computer Networks, Telecommunications or other related field
• Experience in collaborative research projects
• Familiarity with NFV Management and Orchestration (MANO) and Multi-access/Mobile Edge Computing (MEC)
• Experience in CI/CD methodologies
• Knowledge of the 5G architecture and terminology
• Familiarity with Machine Learning techniques
• Experience in monitoring tools (e.g. Prometheus, Grafana etc.)
