A Data Operations Engineer ensures large volumes of data can be searched quickly and secure data is flowing between Podium’s systems. This person would be responsible for functions and tasks that pertain to automation, development, data queue technologies, support, analysis, and performance tuning. This is an amazing opportunity for someone who wants to stretch and pivot into more coding, database technologies, data queue technologies. And also a great fit for someone who aspires to use their ElasticSearch skills within an environment that encourages coding/automation to avoid repetitive work.

What you will be doing:

  • On a team that supports ElasticSearch, Kafka, Kafka Connect, RabbitMQ and Redis Datastores.
  • Administer capacity planning and performance tuning
  • Implement upgrades and new capabilities
  • Ensure the datastore clusters are healthy and functional
  • Provide technical oversight of the Elasticsearch implementations
  • Provide support of ELKs self-service, indexing, searching, visualization capabilities
  • Ensure appropriate monitoring & alerting of Elasticsearch

What you should have:

  • 5-6+ years experience with implementation and optimization of Kafka
  • Experience with cloud development, preferably AWS
  • Experience with evaluating existing Elastic clusters, configuration parameters, indexing, search and query performance tuning, security and administration
  • Highly analytical, detail-oriented, and strong problem solving with a common-sense approach to resolving problems

What we hope you have:

  • Experience with relational and NoSQL databases, including PostgreSQL, redis, Couchbase, or Cassandra
  • Experience with continuous integration tools (Jenkins, Gitlab CI)
  • Experience with infrastructure automation tools (Ansible, Terraform)
  • Experience with Kafka environment builds, including design, capacity planning, cluster setup, performance tuning and ongoing monitoring
  • Experience with KSQL
  • Experience with troubleshooting Kafka Streams and Kafka Connect applications
  • Experience with Elixir
  • Willing to consider alternative mix of similar experience with distributed data stores or queuing technologies at scale, ie. Kafka, Cassandra, others. If you have spent time immersed in sharded, distributed solutions but don't have much Elastic, please apply.
