Henderson Wholesale is a leading Wholesaler in Northern Ireland and supplies goods to over 450 stores across various brands such as SPAR, EUROSPAR and VIVO.

The purpose of the role:
The BI Data Engineer is a pivotal role in transforming Data & Analytics practices across Henderson Group. 

 

This role will focus on designing, building, and maintaining the data infrastructure and pipelines that enable efficient and reliable extraction, transformation, and loading (ETL) of data. 

 

As a key member of the Data Team, you will help the business deliver modern, high impact apps and insights to drive competitive advantage.


Working as Business Intelligence Data Engineer you will: 

  • Ensure ETL processes align with business needs.

  • Design and implement data models for BI reporting.

  • Create intuitive, interactive data visualizations.

  • Optimize database performance for efficient data access.

  • Analyse BI requirements for designated units.

 

Implement efficient ETL processes:

  • Provide optimized ETL processes for data extraction, transformation, and loading.

  • Optimize existing processes for performance improvements.

  • Design robust data architecture solutions to support business needs.

  • Assist in rationalizing master data management for data consistency.


Design and implement data models:

  • Design dimensional data models for BI reporting needs.

  • Modernize analytics capabilities to facilitate faster decision-making.

  • Enforce data integrity constraints for accuracy.

  • Implement access controls for data security.

 

Create intuitive data visualizations:

  • Design interactive dashboards for clear insights.

  • Apply visual design principles for user-friendly visuals.

  • Incorporate interactive features for deeper data exploration.

  • Explore opportunities for predictive analytics.

  • Optimize database performance:

 

Analyse and optimize SQL queries for improved performance.

  • Plan for scalability to accommodate growing data volumes.

  • Monitor database performance metrics for efficiency.

  • Implement automations for productivity gains.

 

Analyse BI requirements:

  • Collaborate with business units to understand reporting needs.

  • Determine requirements for data extraction and analysis.

  • Identify and assess data sources.

  • Document requirements and recommend visualizations.

 

Skills for Success
 
Joining us as Business Intelligence Data Engineer the minimum criteria you’ll need is:

  • A Minimum of 2 years’ experience in a similar data engineer role

  • Strong proficiency in SQL and experience with relational databases

  • Exposure to modern business intelligence tools (e.g. Qlik, Tableau, Power BI)

 

The Attributes you’ll need include:

  • Strong team player, ensuring a positive and collaborative work environment

  • Creativity to deliver impactful business insights

  • Ability to communicate well with both IT and business staff

  • Self-motivated and reliable

 
It is Desirable if you have:

  • Third level Degree in Computer Science, Data, Maths, or related qualification

  • Knowledge of advanced analytics, including AI, Machine Learning etc

  • Experience in implementing ETL processes using SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS)

  • Experience of integrations e.g. APIs

  • Experience of building QlikView or Qlik Sense apps

  • Experience working within a SCRUM and/or Agile environment

This is a full-time position working 36.5 hours per week. Working hours will be 8:45am-4:45pm Monday to Thursday and 8:45am-3:45pm Friday. Hybrid and flexible working arrangement available.
