Why We Need A Lead Data Engineer

The Lead Data Engineer position at WorkMoney is essential for propelling our data infrastructure forward, ensuring it can meet the demands of multiple large-scale projects and initiatives. This position plays a crucial role in efficiently managing and optimizing data processes, allowing us to tackle complex challenges and drive innovation. This is a unique opportunity to hone skills, engage in diverse workflows, and contribute to projects that collectively power our mission to make American life more affordable.

Responsibilities:

  • Conduct detailed assessments of database architecture to uphold data integrity, quality, performance, and scalability, while adhering to industry best practices 
  • Collaborate in the design and construction of a scalable data infrastructure, leveraging technologies like AWS, Redshift, Salesforce, DBT, and more
  • Play a key role in scoping and deploying data pipelines within our infrastructure, ensuring seamless data transfer for programmatic requirements such as integrating calling systems with Salesforce and Redshift
  • Evaluate new tools and propose enhancements to existing systems and processes to optimize efficiency and effectiveness
  • Implement and oversee alerts to monitor data infrastructure health and track metrics showcasing data quality
  • Develop and maintain comprehensive documentation on data flows and mappings to ensure transparency and operational efficiency
  • Promptly address requests for data and reporting, ensuring timely delivery and responsiveness to stakeholder needs
  • Skillfully manage project timelines and deliverables, ensuring prompt completion and optimal outcomes
  • Provide regular, clear updates and status reports to keep stakeholders informed and engaged
  • Establish and maintain a robust issue tracking system, enabling the identification, prioritization, and resolution of challenges encountered during project execution
  • Collaborate with the team to identify opportunities for innovation and improvement, actively contributing to the continuous evolution of our data infrastructure and engineering capabilities

Requirements

What You’ll Need To Be Successful

We seek a Lead Data Engineer who brings a robust skill set and extensive experience in database architecture and cloud-based SQL optimization, particularly within the dynamic realm of AWS. Critical thinking and problem-solving abilities are paramount, as you will navigate ambiguous and evolving requirements and collaborate seamlessly with stakeholders across diverse technical backgrounds. Your primary focus will revolve around architecture tasks, serving as a strategic visionary alongside the Sr Director of Data Engineering to refine and fortify our existing database architecture, ensuring it can accommodate the growing volume of incoming projects. You will also flex into engineering tasks, such as constructing tables and pipelines to bolster various programs, projects, election initiatives, and API builds. 

Qualifications

  • 2+ years as a Senior Data Engineer OR 6+ years’ experience in data engineering 
  • Expertise in utilizing DBT or similar ETL tools, along with a history of successfully designing and building tables and databases
  • Strong database architecture skills, coupled with critical thinking and problem-solving abilities, enabling the handling of ambiguous and evolving requirements
  • Proven experience building and optimizing data environments, preferably in AWS and Redshift
  • Proficient in SQL and Python, with the ability to utilize these tools effectively
  • Seasoned in refining and enhancing existing data pipelines to unlock peak efficiency and exceptional performance
  • Skilled in collaborating with stakeholders to identify critical issues, prioritize solutions, and devise effective solutions utilizing resources
  • Self-motivated problem solver with a keen eye for identifying and rectifying data inaccuracies
  • Proficient in conducting research, proposing innovative tools and setups, and leading migrations, with a knack for planning and execution
  • Experience working with external vendors/contracts and adept at communicating complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences
  • Collaborative mindset, thriving in cross-functional teams by effectively sharing knowledge and contributing to the delivery of high-quality products

The salary for this role is $144,200 annually, and as part of our commitment to pay equity in our organization, the salary for this position is not negotiable.
