Who you are 

To advance Understood’s mission and to further our impact, we’re seeking a we are seeking an intrinsically motivated and curiosity-driven Data Engineer, reporting to our Senior Data Engineer, who will focus on enhancing and growing our data warehouse. Sitting on the Data Engineering team, you will also work closely with our Data Operations, Analytics, and Marketing stakeholders to provide their team with data that will drive org-wide analytics and data-driven decision making at Understood.

This is a hybrid opportunity, which requires three (3) days per week in our NYC office.

What you’ll do

• Build out ETL pipeline in partnership with the data ops team and in service of the data analysts, marketing, donations, and data science teams
• Connect to third party APIs to bring data into and send data out of our Snowflake data warehouse 
• Build out ETL pipelines within Snowflake to transform, clean, and stage data for stakeholders.
• Update and maintain monitoring and alerting to ensure our data’s quality
• Maintain the team’s documentation, data dictionaries, and maintenance playbooks
• Maintain our existing ETL pipelines
• Implement and enforce best practices and standards for scalability, availability, efficiency, data life-cycle management, security, quality, fault tolerance, and disaster recovery
• Identify waste and optimization opportunities and recommend initiatives that help achieve technical excellence

Must-haves

• 1-4 years of data engineering (or comparable) experience with data-driven problem solving, data integration, data migration, and test-driven development
• Developed, designed or managed ETL tasks that connect to third party APIs
• Familiarity with SQL, relational databases, and data warehouses (Snowflake, Postgres, etc.)
• Familiarity with python and typical data libraries (e.g pandas, pytest)
• Familiarity in agile methodologies and ceremonies
• Committed to embodying and being a steward of our commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging 

Nice-to-haves

• Familiarity with using a third party tool like Rivery or Stitch to bring data into a first party database
• Capable of close collaborative work with fellow data engineer team members, other data team members, technical and non-technical stakeholders, product managers, and end users

The base salary range for this role is minimum $100,000 - $115,000 maximum, depending on years of experience and qualifications. We offer a comprehensive benefits package that supports wellness for our team members and their families. You can learn more about our benefits and offerings.
