About the Role:

We are excited to offer this opportunity for a highly analytical and motivated Machine Learning Engineer to join our team in a permanent capacity.

This role plays a critical role in applying skills and expertise in the Digital Innovation R&D team for the building of AI-based applications, machine learning models, and associated tools and infrastructure for delivering innovative projects across a wide range of initiatives.

The successful applicant for this role will lead a diverse range of activities including: the development and management of training and test datasets, applying highly-evolved software engineering skills and techniques to develop, deploy and improve models and applications. You will work with the team on selecting the appropriate technology to address identified business problems. The team has a strong focus on computer vision and generative AI techniques, associated data management and cloud computing infrastructure but can be called on to identify, research and apply other technologies and techniques that solves a problem for the business. 

In order to succeed in this this role, you will need to maintain a broad view of technology and how it can be applied to the challenges of the business. You will need to manage an appropriate balance of self-direction and collaboration, to think clearly and systematically about problems, and communicate effective approaches to address them and apply drive and enthusiasm to prove out the solutions.

What you’ll deliver: 

  • Identify, design, implement and train ML/AI models to address business and solution requirements, as well as analyse model performance to identify performance issues, potential causes and potential remedies 
  • Manage ML training and test data and identify, design, and documenting data required for the training, testing, and developing ML/AI models.
  • Develop and implement automated processes and cloud deployment infrastructure to optimise the cost, performance and complexity of ML pipelines and deployments, including recommending, implementing or supporting opportunities to improve our processes
  • Collaborate with other R&D and project team members using agreed processes for project delivery activities, including planning, prioritisation, task assignment and completion.
  • Lead delivery of assigned components and ensure they are appropriately design, developed and documented as required to meet project delivery commitments
  • Clearly identify and communicate issues, problems, approaches and needs required for successful delivery of R&D projects and initiatives, and present analysis and documentation that is clear, compelling, and relevant

 

To succeed in this role, you’ll have:

  • Tertiary qualifications in engineering, computer science, data science and/or statistics or equivalent demonstrated working experience
  • Significant real-world experience as a Machine Learning engineer or in a similar role
  • Strong knowledge of and experience applying software engineering techniques and development processes and tools
  • Advanced proficiency with Python, PyTorch, Tensorflow or similar frameworks
  • Demonstrated experience in real-world application of image processing and computer vision applications using modern approaches and techniques
  • Demonstrated experience delivering solutions with cloud technologies, particularly AWS
  • Stakeholder management skills, strong communication and the ability to deliver business solutions.
