Sr Lead Data Engineer - Storage Cost Optimization and Sustainability

This role is part of the Storage product line, and will be focused on cost optimization and sustainability initiatives for both private and public cloud products. The role will play a pivotal role in analyzing and optimizing our storage infrastructure to reduce wasted spend and environmental impact, while maintaining performance and reliability. The role will work closely with cross-functional teams to gather, analyze, and interpret data related to storage usage, costs and performance, identifying areas for improvement, implementing strategies and driving projects to optimize storage efficiency.

Job responsibilities

  • Analyze storage usage patterns, costs and performance metrics to identify opportunities for optimizing costs and reducing environmental impact.
  • Develop and maintain data models, dashboards, and reports to track storage utilization, costs, performance and sustainability metrics, such as carbon footprint and energy consumption – both internal focused and user focused.
  • Conduct cost-benefit analysis and ROI assessments for proposed storage optimization projects.
  • Develop requirements for the data engineering team to create data sources and data models, and dashboards where we lack visibility.
  • Based on identified opportunities to improve cost and sustainability, develop requirements for software engineers and technical writers.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to gather requirements, define key performance indicators (KPIs), and establish metrics for evaluating storage optimization initiatives for cost, performance and sustainability.
  • Implement data-driven strategies and initiatives to optimize storage efficiency, reduce costs, and improve performance.
  • Stay current on industry trends, best practices, and emerging technologies related to storage cost optimization and sustainability.
  • Interpret data, analyze results using statistical techniques and provide ongoing reports
  • Develop, implement and maintain dashboards and reports to present data insights

Required qualifications, capabilities, and skills

  • At least 5 years proven experience as a Data Analyst or Product Manager
  • Proficiency in data analysis tools and techniques, such as SQL, Python, R or similar
  • Strong analytical skills and attention to detail
  • Great problem solving skills
  • Strong team player with positive attitude
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to effectively interact with cross-functional teams
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects simultaneously in a fast-paced environment
  • AWS Cloud Practitioner certification and FinOps Practitioner certification
  • Willingness to work in a 60% in office hybrid model

Preferred qualifications, capabilities and skills

  • Experience with sustainability initiatives including how to measure and track
  • Understanding of storage or other infrastructure
