PACCAR is a global manufacturer of heavy-duty transportation equipment, including Kenworth, Peterbilt, and DAF trucks. The Engineering Solutions team at the PACCAR Technical Center in Mount Vernon WA is looking for a talented and highly motivated data engineer with software engineering experience who is willing to work across disciplines. The team is part of the PACCAR Global Engines group with a goal to provide highly generic, robust, and streamlined software solutions to multiple departments and divisions within PACCAR. These solutions will typically support data acquisition and analysis, rapid controls prototyping, hardware-in-the-loop simulation, calibration control, diagnostics, and software configuration management activities. The engineer will have an opportunity to utilize a variety of technologies along with core engineering and computer science fundamentals to deliver solutions to achieve this goal. Job Functions / Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and support a robust data pipeline focused on ensuring data quality, global accessibility, and conformance to regulations at PACCAR.
- Design and Develop software solutions for data archival, analysis, and reporting, with a strong emphasis on data science methodologies.
- Development and maintenance of software solutions that support processes for data analysis, software release, software configuration management, hardware-in-the-loop simulation, and rapid controls prototyping activities.
- Responsibilities include capturing user stories/requirements, writing both functional and test code, automating build and deployment, and/or performing unit integration, and end-to-end testing of the software solutions.
- Ensure compliance with established policies, standards, and best practices for software documentation within the development team. Continuously improve these practices to promote accuracy, consistency, and efficiency across all project documentation.
- Stay up to date with the latest software development trends, technologies, and tools, and apply them to drive innovation and improve software development processes and deliverables for PACCAR.
Qualifications
- At least two years of proven experience in a professional environment with a focus on software engineering or data engineering (graduate qualifications may be considered in lieu of experience)
- Strong programming and object-oriented design/development skills required (MATLAB, Simulink, Python, Java, C, C++, C#, embedded software development)
- Use of version control systems (SVN, Git) & database development tools (SQL, MySQL)
- Strong attention to detail, a passion to solve problems, and strong communication skills
- Availability to work on-site, travel up to 10%, including international travel
- Experience with data collection systems, data acquisition hardware, and sensors commonly used in vehicle and systems testing.
- Knowledge of the automotive industry and the commercial vehicle industry preferred.
Education
Bachelor’s degree (Computer Science/Computer Engineering/Electrical Engineering)
