About the opportunity:KarmaCheck is seeking a passionate and dynamic Principal Data Engineer to spearhead our Data Warehousing, Analytics and Reporting initiatives. In this lead role, you will be instrumental in defining and overseeing our data architecture, developing and refining data pipelines, as well as establishing and managing BI and data visualization tools. These efforts will cater to both our internal needs for data insights as well as our Customers reporting and analytics needs.
This critical position requires a blend of autonomy and collaborative spirit. You'll work closely with engineers, product managers, and customer support in a vibrant, fast-paced setting, all dedicated to delivering cutting-edge solutions to sectors that urgently need them. Your responsibilities will encompass the entire spectrum of development and delivery, including analyzing requirements, designing, coding, testing, and maintaining features in a production environment.
Moreover, your responsibilities will extend to recruiting, training, and guiding other engineers. By leveraging your expertise and experience, you will serve as both a mentor and a role model, driving continuous enhancements in our product, technology, processes, and the overall culture of our engineering organization.
This position is fully remote, with the rare exception of travel for company/team meetings and/or customer engagement.
What you'll do:
- Lead cloud-based data engineering initiatives, including designing and implementing modern data streaming, transformation, and aggregation pipelines.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define data requirements, ensuring data availability, integrity, and security.
- Develop and implement best practices for data management, quality, and governance, in line with company policies and data privacy regulations.
- Evaluate and adopt new technologies to enhance KarmaCheck's data engineering capabilities.
- Undertake preprocessing of structured and unstructured data, and present insights using data visualization techniques.
- Build and maintain actionable reporting, analysis, and core metric dashboards using tools like DBT, Snowflake, Looker, Quicksight, and Tableau to empower decision-making and provide business insights to cross-functional leaders.
- Educate cross-functional teams (solutions engineers, product managers, sales, customer success, etc.) on data analytics and reporting capabilities.
Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field; or equivalent work experience
- 10+ years in software development and 5+ years building ETL pipelines and data infrastructure (e.g. Redshift, Snowflake, BigQuery, Databricks)
- 5+ years NodeJS
- 5+ years developing software in AWS.
- Demonstrated successful experience working in a remote engineering capacity
- Extensive experience with relational SQL (MySQL preferred) and NoSQL databases
- Experience with various data loading patterns (batch, streaming, etc.)
- Strong understanding of data security principles and best practices.
- Experience provisioning infrastructure using Infrastructure as Code tools (such as Cloudformation, Terraform and CDK)
- Experience building software in continuous integration and delivery fashion in an automated way
- Excellent documentation, communication, and troubleshooting skills
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.

- The expected base compensation for this role is between $160,000 - $215,000 for work performed in the United States. Starting pay for the successful applicant will depend on a variety of job-related factors, which may include seniority level, experience level, transferable skills, education, location, business needs, training, and market demands. This range may be modified in the future.
