Principal Data Scientist, Experimentation Platform

This is a senior IC leadership position for someone with 10+ years of prior industry experience in a research role with significant experience in building scalable online experimentation platforms. As a Principal Scientist within our Data Science and Machine Learning group, you will drive our biggest challenges, turning business asks and creative ideas that do not have an obvious blueprint into scalable modeling solutions that run in real-time. This is an individual-contributor role focused on research, design and implementation of novel approaches and techniques that cut across our entire stack: You will get an opportunity to work with one of the largest e-commerce data system out there, come up with innovative testing and measurement algorithms and solutions, implement them as scalable production systems, and uplevel Wayfair’s testing capabilities to guide cross-functional business decisions in website, marketing, operations, merchandise, pricing, and B2B. What you will do
- Design and deploy a scalable online experimentation production system, automate experiment setup, assignment, delivery, and analysis, and make experimentation easy and fast.
- Keep abreast of relevant research and use it to come up with your own ideas of how to improve our digital and non-digital experimental experience - For example using machine learning models for variance control and outcome prediction in tests.
- Work with cross-functional teams of engineers, scientists, product managers and analysts, to devise implementation strategies.
- Be a key contributor to the data science and machine-learning community, both within and outside of Wayfair. Maintain expert knowledge in causal inference, statistics, computer science, machine learning, reinforcement learning and more.

What you bring
- 10+ years of experience in research & development, with substantial time spent both in an academic setting and within industry environment.
- History of building experimentation and measurement solutions at scale, demonstrated through practical business impact and/or publications.
- Significant understanding of engineering systems and tools needed to apply statistical methods at scale.
- You are hands on and comfortable coding on an industry-standard machine-learning stack (Hadoop/Bigquery, Spark, Python, Jupyter).
- You love seeing your work through to customer impact!
